Also, the cans sounded too mellow at first, but they sound much more neutral now. It is still rather on the "warm" side, but I would say only to a pleasant degree to my ears.
Here's a quick review for you. The quality is absolutely great, and the range is incredible. His first comments about the product came before it was even out of the box. The outside of the box literally has instructions on how to open the packaging!
When, in time, the batteries are exhausted, I can simply purchase replacements at the grocery store and change them out in less than a minute. I was SO PLEASED with the RS 180, that I purchased a second pair to carry with me to field locations.
Two of them were such a pain to use I threw them in the trash. The third one stopped working after about 6 months of use.
Everything is well designed and well-constructed. It all feels very solid. Playing video games for example, the menus were soft and subtle, and the actual game music explodes with vivacity. It's easy to strain your ears by underestimating how neutral they can be. I was excited about this alone, but I also learned that the volume controls are flat and therefore will not accidentally change as per my first point made above. Here's what I found about the 180's after one day of use. It's difficult to feel them at times. I often turn the unit off while trying to adjust the volume down. There is no static. I wear them for several hours a day and they're quite comfortable. Since it cannot process the lossless codecs via bit stream, everything was fed to it as PCM. This caused the receiver to automatically apply its own processing (aptly named Headphone 2CH).
My ears also hurt after a short time due to the foam ear pads. After more research I decided to give the RS180 a try. I have only two issues with this headset. The range of operation is not what I thought it should be.
