Kids love to sing new songs and become very excited when they are introduced to new types of music. Childrens songs usually have a catchy beat to go along with words that are fairly simple to pronounce. If you train a child to sing one line at a time it will generally improve over time and they will learn lyrics a lot more easily.
You can grab a couple of song booklets and song sheets to help them familiarize themselves with the notes. This may trigger an interest with them wanting to learn how to play instruments as well. Make sure that you pick out an appropriate song for them to sing to that is easy to pronounce. Make sure that your song sheets also have the lyrics printed on them.
If you are teaching a young child you should have pictures to go along with the lyrics to give them a more enjoyable experience while they are singing. Now you can start by reading the lyrics aloud so that they can ask questions if they are uncertain about certain words.
Once this is done you can move on to showing the child how to rest and breathe correctly before actually singing. Let them warm up their voice by doing vocal routines and then proceed to sing the first line of the song.
As they are singing you can join in and instruct them on how to change the pitch in their voice if needed for certain parts of a song. Once you have completed one line you can move to the next using the same process.
You can also teach them about hand gestures during singing which you will use to cue them to stop or go. When you have finally went through the song verse by verse they can now practice singing the song entirely day by day.
